New Head of the Boston ATF Looking to Crack Down on Weapons Crimes

Special agent in charge Daniel Kumor recently told reporters that he was happy to be back in Boston and heading up the Boston branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Kumor was an assistant special agent in the Boston district before the 9/11 terror attacks, when he was transferred to the ATF's Washington headquarters. Now that he has come back to Massachusetts to head up the ATF's Boston office, he is looking to join forces with local law enforcement to really crack down on weapons crimes and other violent crimes. Kumor stated that the ATF's overall focus is on street-level crimes involving guns, firearms, explosives and acts of arson. He is hopeful that the crackdown will help make for safer neighborhoods and communities in and around the Boston area.

The state of Massachusetts is very tough when it comes to its gun laws and restrictions. Individuals who are found to illegally possess a firearm, or who use a firearm in the commission of a crime will be facing serious charges and penalties. Now that the ATF will be working more directly with local law enforcement, those individuals who find themselves under arrest for or charged with weapons crimes in the Quincy or Boston areas, can expect to be aggressively prosecuted.
